Abstract:: This collection consists of the personal and professional papers of Miranda Summers Lowe, Army Major, Army National Guard Historian with the National Guard Bureau, and Brown University class of 2009 A.M. Summers Lowe deployed to Iraq in 2006 and the Horn of Africa in 2014. Materials include awards, correspondence received during deployments and Officer Candidate School, graduation programs, photographs, reference cards, and Summers Lowe's combat uniform from her deployment to Iraq. The collection dates from 1990 - 2024, but the bulk of the materials date from 2006 to 2024.

Abstract:: Consists of subject files dating from 1976 to 1990, most of which were created while Howard Robert Swearer was President of Brown University. Subjects documented in the collection include alumni and alumnae; athletics; admissions; the Bio-Med program; the Corporation; commencements; physical planning; faculty; libraries; students; the cooperative program between Brown University and Tougaloo College; and gifts to the University. Civil rights and minority affairs on the Brown University campus, including issues about status of women; Afro-American studies; Asian-American students; Hispanic American students; the American Civil Liberties Union; sexual harassment; and discrimination are documented. Student topics documented include the university radio station, WBRU; issues pertaining to Iranian students (ca.1978-1980); campus organizations; and protests about Central Intelligence Agency recruiting on campus. There are files on Richard Salomon, Thomas J. Watson, and Baruch Korff.

Abstract:: This collection is an oral history of David Taylor conducted by Professor Beth Taylor in 2010 about his experiences at Brown University and his military service during the Vietnam War. It includes uniforms he wore during the Vietnam War and supporting biographical information about David Taylor. Taylor attended Brown University on a Naval ROTC scholarship, graduating in 1966 before joining the Marine Corps. In the summer of 1968, after 18 months of flight school training, David served as a CH-53 helicopter pilot based out of Phu Bai. During his thirteen-month tour, First Lieutenant Taylor flew more than seven hundred missions. From 1969 to 1971, David then served as part of Helicopter Marine Experimental-1 (HMX-1), an elite squadron whose primary mission was to fly the President of the United States. David left HMX-1 to attend Harvard Business School and pursue a career in commercial real estate. David remained at the Trammell Crow Company until his retirement.

Abstract:: The collection comprises 390 architectural drawings dating from 1844-1859 by Rhode Island architect Thomas Alexander Tefft (1826-1859). These include public buildings (churches, schools, libraries, hospitals) and private residences, in addition to towers, gates, monuments and gravestones. In some cases, there are various elevations, views, and floor plans for the same structure. While many of the structures Tefft designed still stand, some were never built, and many have been destroyed. Tefft was a graduate of Brown University (Class of 1851).

Abstract:: This collection contains the professional papers of Jennifer Terry, Professor Emerita at University of California, Irvine. Her scholarship concentrates on feminist cultural studies; science and technology studies; comparative and historical formations of gender, race, and sexuality; state-sponsored violence and biomedicine; and American studies in transnational perspective. She received her PhD in History of Consciousness from University of California, Santa Cruz. Materials document Terry’s academic career, early research, and writings. Materials include correspondence, syllabi, handwritten notes, research materials, draft writings, and conference presentations. The collection dates from 1978 to 2024.

Abstract:: The Henry Knox Thatcher papers consist of an oil painting of the U.S.S. Constellation, military memorabilia, and three journals and logs kept by Thatcher while on board several ships, including the U.S.S. Brandywine (1839-1841) and the U.S.S. Constellation (1862-1863). The journals reflect ship life, diversions on shore, the social and political climate of his time, and the duties of American ships in the Mediterranean during the early years of the Civil War.
