Abstract:: Clark Ashton Smith (1893-1961) was a fantasy writer, a poet, translator, sculptor, and painter. His papers, which reflect his wide-ranging interests, consist of approximately 8000 items and include, among other items, his correspondence; many working manuscripts of his writings, some of which remain unpublished; financial and legal documents; published material consisting of periodicals of his own work; and other published matter which concerns Smith or which he himself collected. As with most personal manuscript collections, the Smith Papers contain a large amount of personal letters from friends and acquaintances, transactions. between book and magazine publishers concerning the publication or rejection of his work, purchases by fans of books and artwork by Smith (most of which he marketed himself), and other correspondence.

Abstract:: Harry Smith graduated from Brown in 1957, and by 1964 he had established his own literary magazine: The Smith. He went on to establish a second magazine, Pulpsmith, as well as a small press, Smith-Publishers, which published works of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and drama. This collection includes correspondence, book reviews, notebooks of prose and poetry, production files with galleys and page proofs, manuscripts, and photocopies.

Abstract:: The Smith Hill Community Development Corporation formed in 1992 with the purpose of acquiring residential properties and lots in the Smith Hill neighborhood of Providence, in order to renovate existing housing and build new housing. The organization focused on building or making available housing that was affordable to low- and middle-income residents, using local, state, and federal grants to facilitate this process. The collection includes materials covering the organization’s board and governance, detailed documentation of housing development projects, and programs designed to support and engage the surrounding community. The organization became financially unviable during the COVID-19 pandemic, and subsequently the board voted to dissolve the organization in 2022.

The majority of the materials focus on the early history of Alcoholics Anonymous in the Cleveland, Ohio area and Clarence Snyder's involvement in Alcoholics Anonymous.
