Abstract:
The Coalition of Essential Schools (CES) records contains various materials documenting the foundation of CES. The records contain correspondence between CES and partner and funding institutions, as well as extensive documentation of grant funding pursued and distributed by CES. The development of the Essential Schools movement is embodied in the publication of Horace and in the video recordings of Coalition schools.

Abstract:
The F. Morris Cochran papers consist chiefly of office files compiled from 1945 to 1967, when Cochran was the Vice President in charge of all the business operations of Brown University. The files include materials regarding administrative and academic departments, the budget, insurance, personnel, professional and student associations, purchasing, and rental property. Some reports, including several entitled "DM Clayton Studies and Surveys" are also included. The papers are dated from circa 1939 to 1967.

The collection consists of Louis Cohen’s correspondence with salesmen and sales managers during his employment as a sales representative with Optimum Book Marketing and St. Martin’s Press/Holtzbrinck Publishers. There are also memoranda, notes, brochures, advertisements, reviews, invitations, stationery, photographs and 2 audiocassette tapes relating to his work and to his association with the Brotherhood of Book Travelers, later the Association of Book Travelers, and to his term as president.

The Robert F. Cohen, Jr. papers relate to his activist work as a student at Brown from 1964-1968, and as a community organizer in Providence and other Rhode Island communities, and New York City around welfare rights, housing discrimination and education between 1966-1972. The collection contains original materials created in the context of this work, including press releases, research notes, minutes of meetings, leaflets, and other organizing materials, as well as news clippings covering the actual events. There is also an extensive collection of publications from progressive organizations.
