Abstract:
This collection contains magazine articles and photographs related to the career of Augustus A. White III (Brown, Class of 1957) as an orthopedic surgeon. He is a Vietnam Veteran. He served 2 years as an army surgeon a year of which, August 1966-August 1967, he was stationed at the 85th Evacuation Hospital in the Qui Nhon region of Vietnam. During that year he also volunteered during his off-duty time at the St. Francis Leprosarium run by Catholic nuns in a nearby village where he treated patients fighting leprosy. He went on to have a distinguished career as the first African American to graduate from Stanford Medical School in 1961 and held positions in orthopedic surgery at Yale Medical School, Beth Israel Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He has also been keenly interested in issues of race, bias, and disparity in medical care and education. In 2011 he founded Harvard's Culturally Competent Care Education Program to begin combating the unconscious and conscious biases of health care professionals and educators.

Abstract:
Kenneth P. Whiting was employed from 1925 to 1926 at Thomas A. Edison Inc. in disc record manufacturing and development and distribution of demonstrating sample records. The Kenneth P. Whiting papers include a series of memoranda from Whiting to Edison himself, with Edison's replies.

Abstract:
This collection consists of the personal and university papers of Magel Craig Wilder, graduate of the Women's College in Brown University, class of 1919. She was also the secretary for her year and kept track of students correspondence to inform the rest of the class, kept information regarding alumnae plans and job information post graduation, and created a scrapbook containing pictures and information of every student. The collection includes letters, pictures, newspaper clippings about university news, information slips filled in by the students, pages of the scrapbook and the program for the alumnae reunion of 1923. The collection also includes biology notes taken by Wilder, an offprint of one of her articles, a Limnology table of contents and correspondence and reunion materials from other students of her class dating from 1919 - 1923

William Henry Vanderbilt served as governor of Rhode Island from 1939 to 1941. These papers consist primarily of correspondence concerning applications for patronage positions and/or charitable donations. Also included are campaign speeches, reports, Vanderbilt's two annual messages to the General Assembly, and materials relating to a controversy over the dismissal of Rhode Island State College President, Raymond G. Bressler.

This collection contains the papers of Linda Williams, Professor Emerita in Film & Media and Rhetoric from the University of California at Berkeley. Her academic interests center on Feminist Theory and "body genres," genres designed to elicit a specific physical reaction. These include pornography, melodrama, and horror.
