Corso (Gregory) papers

Abstract:: This collection, although small in scope, contains a significant assortment of documentation, the sum total of which provides substantive information about Gregory Corso’s personal and creative life. It contains working manuscripts and original artwork by Corso, as well as a small collection of correspondence mostly connected to Corso as either sender, recipient or subject. It also contains a small group of books by Corso; over one hundred photographs of Corso and his family and associates; phonograph records and video cassettes by or about Corso and other Beat writers; and a few miscellaneous ephemeral materials. Highlights of the collection include eleven of Corso’s journals containing about 700 pages of hand-written entries in the from of prose, poetry, and scattered drawings, as well as three files of manuscript material, containing approximately 175 pages of a work entitled

Maas (Willard) Papers

Abstract:: Includes correspondence, manuscripts, play scripts, film scripts, photographs, drawings, galley proofs, and ephemera of the American poet, experimental filmmaker, editor, and educator Willard Maas, dating from 1931 to 1968. Maas, who was openly bisexual and married to artist and filmmaker Marie Menken, with whom he often collaborated, is especially known for his pioneering avant-garde films, many of which explored homoerotic themes. These films, which were created from the early 1940s to the late 1960s, influenced the work of a number artists from that era, including Kenneth Anger and Andy Warhol; and they continue to garner much critical attention and acclaim by many contemporay scholars, filmmakers, and artists who acknowlege Maas' influential contribution to the history of cinematography. Orson (Barbara) papers

Abstract:: This collection consists of materials associated with Barbara Orson, an accomplished American stage, television, and film actress, and one of the founding members of the Trinity Repertory Company of Providence, R.I. The collection dates from 1914-2011, the bulk of which ranges from the 1950s to the end of the 20th century. This collection documents her stellar carreer in theatre and film, from the time she began her formal studies at the Dramatic Workshop of the New School in 1948 until her retirement from Trinity Repertory Company. It includes correspondence, as well as an interesting collection of personal items, ranging from a childhood diary and autograph book, to acting awards, professional headshots, acting contracts, and resumes. It is particularly strong in its array of documents about the theatre, mainly associated with, but not limited to, Trinity Rep, including a substantive assortment of printed materials, such as programs, brochures, booklets, play scripts, and sheet music. Of special note is its stunning array of stage photographs dating from the mid-20th century to the late 20th century.
