The Rhode Island Medical Society papers primarily relate to the activities of the Society, various topics in medical research, and the history of the medical sciences. The papers include correspondence, reports, and memos; addresses and speeches; case studies; documents; research/lecture notes and papers; medical notebooks; autograph letters of prominent men of medicine collected by George Dallas Hersey; medical drawings; photographs; meeting programs; biographical data; slides; and, other miscellanea. The material represents Elisabeth and Robert Dexter’s humanitarian work in Europe with the Unitarian Service Committee, their respective historical and sociological research projects, and the life and work of Elisabeth’s father Alfred Williams Anthony, a Baptist minister and educator.
