        <bioghist><head>Biographical/Historical Note</head>
            <p>Dr. Richard Lobban was a professor in the fields of African and Middle Eastern Studies. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in general biology, a Master of Arts degree in anthropology, and a Master's Degree and PhD. in African anthropology. He was a professor of Anthropology and African Studies at Rhode Island College. Amongst his publications is the Historical Dictionary of the Republic of Cape Verde, Third Edition.</p>

                <p>This collection contains research materials used by Dr. Richard Lobban whilst writing the Historical Dictionary of the Republic of Cape Verde, Third Edition. The materials include xerographic copies (some of which dated to 1704) of book chapters and journal articles, from various sources detailing the history of Cape Verde and Cape Verdeans. Common themes within the material are Cape Verdean history, environmental and ecological studies, Cape Verdean immigrants, the relationship between Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau, and Cape Verdean Creole (Kriolu).</p>
