The first meeting of the Rhode Island School Superintendents Association was held on June 6, 1903. The current mission of the Association is to use leadership, support, and advocacy to ensure the highest quality education for all children in Rhode Island.
The collection contains meeting minutes that detail brief summaries of meetings held at the office of the Commissioner of Public Schools at the State House in Providence, Rhode Island from June 6, 1903 to November 29, 1920. The records consist of elections of officers, votes, meeting attendees, topics, plans, and proposed educational legislation. The materials were removed from the original binder for preservation purposes and original order retained.
Researchers are advised to contact Rhode Island College Special Collections for questions regarding permissions to reproduce, distribute, or otherwise publish material from this collection. Although Rhode Island College has physical ownership of the collection, it does not necessarily hold literary rights. It is up to the researcher to determine the owners of the literary rights and to obtain any necessary permissions from them.

The collection is arranged in the order in which it arrived in the Rhode Island College Special Collections.
The provenance of the collection is unknown, however a note with the collection indicates it was given to the library or college in 1955 by Dr. Gaige (presumably Dr. William Gaige, president of the college at the time).
The collection was described by Special Collections intern, Melissa Moniz, under the supervision of Digital Archivist and Special Collections Librarian, Veronica L. Denison, in 2023.
The meeting minutes were removed from the original binder for preservation purposes and the binder, which had no collection information, was discarded. Original order was retained.
