Barbara Ann Masters Rehm studied music with a focus on Cape Verdean music, she received a Master of Arts in Music from Brown University in 1975.
Research materials and notes used by Barbara Ann Masters Rehm for her Master of Arts in Music thesis at Brown University. Most research materials are in Cape Verdean Kriolu and Portuguese. The collection includes letters from individuals regarding Cape Verdean music and folk traditions. Her thesis, “A Study of the Cape Verdean Morna in New Bedford, Massachusetts,” is included and written in English.

The collection was given to Special Collections in 1989 by Richard Lobban and Traudi Coli.
The collection was arranged and described by Special Collections staff prior to 2010, with a revision to the description completed by Special Collections staff in 2010. The collection was further described by Special Collections intern Kevin Eian Bennett in 2025 under the supervision of Digital Archivist and Special Collections Librarian Veronica L. Denison.
The collection was given to either Richard Lobban or Traudi Coli prior to 1989.
Two items, "Folclore caboverdiano" by Pedro Monteiro Cardoso and "Consciencializac̦ão na literatura Caboverdiana" by Onésimo Silveira, were removed from the collection and added to the Special Collections Cape Verdean Rare Book Collection.
