        <bioghist><head>Biographical/Historical Note</head>
            <p>Dora Gannet Sedgwick Hazard was born in Syracuse, New York on August 13, 1864 to Charles Baldwin Sedgwick and Deborah W. Gannett. Dora married Frederick Rowland Hazard and had five children.</p>
            <p>Frederick Rowland Hazard was born in Peace Dale, Washington County, Rhode Island on June 14, 1858 to Rowland Hazard and Margaret Ann Rood and died February 27, 1917 when he was 59 years old.</p>

            <scopecontent>
                <p>The collection contains letters dated between 1843 to 1928, a majority of which were sent to Dora Hazard. Subjects of the letters include the British suffragette movement, Ouija boards and planchettes, as well as New York voting fraud and incompetence or dishonesty of the election officials. The collection also includes a thank-you note from Nicholas Murray Butler to Dora Hazard thanking her for the gift of Fanny Kemble’s journal to the Columbia University Library.</p>

            <processinfo><p>An inventory to the collection was initially created by Frederick R. H. Witherby in 1972 prior to donation to Rhode Island College Special Collections. The collection was further described according to archival standards by Avelina Rocchio under the supervision of Digital Archivist and Special Collections Librarian Veronica L.
