<p>Barbara Mildram was an early childhood education professional. She attended Vassar College, earning her Bachelor’s degree in child study in 1938, and received her advanced certificate in child development at the University of London Institute of Education. In 1957, Mildram received her Master’s degree from the Bank Street College of Education, where she was one of the school’s first degree recipients. Mildram taught in progressive schools in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Washington, D.C., the Ann L. Page Memorial School at Wellesley College, and in the Laboratory School of the State University of New York at New Paltz. Additionally, she worked at the Bank Street School in New York City and was Director of the Summer School at Bank Street College for two years. She then worked at the Bureau of Child Development and Parent Education of the New York State Education Department where she was engaged in nursery school parent education and the early stage of the Head Start Programs. In 1968, Mildram became a professor at Rhode Island College, where she taught graduate and undergraduate courses in the Department of Elementary Education. She worked at Rhode Island College until her retirement in 1977.</p>

The collection was partially described and some publications added to the Barbara Mildram early childhood materials book collection, which is part of the Special Collections Rare Books Collections, by Marlene Lopes, Special Collections Librarian, sometime after 1995 when the collection was transferred to Special Collections. In 2024, the collection was described by Special Collections intern Hailey-Rose Coulter Brown under the supervision of, and additional edits done by, Digital Archivist and Special Collections Librarian, Veronica L. Denison. At this time a majority of the publications were removed from the collection, some of which were added to the Barbara Mildram early childhood materials book collection.</p></processinfo>
