The Rhode Island Association of Women Deans and Counselors was a state chapter of the now-defunct National Association of Women Deans and Counselors, which was last known as the National Association for Women in Education. It was established in 1950 as the Rhode Island Association of Deans and Advisors of Women and was renamed twice; once in 1960 to the Rhode Island Association of Women Deans and Counselors, and again circa 1970 to the Rhode Island Association of Women Deans, Administrators, and Counselors (RIAWDC). The organization, which dissolved circa 1990, provided training for women in educational administration. Mary Davey, who served as Rhode Island College’s Public Relations Director, was part of its membership. Former RIC President William Gaige and educator James P. Adams were among those featured as guest speakers.
This collection contains records from, and related to, the Rhode Island Association of Women Deans and Counselors dated between 1950-1966. It includes correspondence, reports, budgets, meeting announcements and meeting minutes. Correspondence includes invitations to administrators and responses, as well as internal reports and letters. The collection also contains materials from the National Association of Women Deans and Counselors.
Researchers are advised to contact Rhode Island College Special Collections for questions regarding permissions to reproduce, distribute, or otherwise publish material from this collection. Although Rhode Island College has physical ownership of the collection, it does not necessarily hold literary rights. It is up to the researcher to determine the owners of the literary rights and to obtain any necessary permissions from them.

The collection was donated to Rhode Island College Special Collections in 2009 by Eva Neira.
The collection was initially arranged and described by Special Collections staff prior to 2022. The guide to the collection was updated, and the collection further described by Special Collections intern Liz Riccio in 2024, under the supervision of Digital Archivist and Special Collections Librarian, Veronica L. Denison.
Dr. Nancy Carriuolo gave the collection to Eva Neira.
