The Study Committee on Tenure met in a series of 12 meetings between November 12, 1974, and June 3, 1975, to analyze the benefits and opposition to tenure approval procedures. The Committee consisted of six faculty members, three of whom were appointed by the Rhode Island College President and three who were appointed by the President of RIC/AFT (Rhode Island College/American Federation of Teachers). The committee included Mark Estrin, John Nazarian, Ridgway Shinn, Ronald Ballinger, R. Greene, and R. Young.
The collection contains one report that includes preliminary findings endorsing the current methods to gain tenure, definitions of related key terms, a description of the stages required for tenure, the committee’s reasons to oppose tenure quotas and college-wide tenure reviews, and recommendations to amend the RIC/AFT Agreement.
