         <head>Historical note</head>
         <p>The Placement Office at Pembroke College in Providence, Rhode Island was originally known as the Appointment Bureau in the early 1920s. Its name was changed to the Office of Admission and Personnel in the late 1920s, then to the Placement Office from 1944 to 1963, and finally to the Office of Placement and Career Planning from 1963 until Pembroke merged with Brown University in 1971.</p>

         <p>The Pembroke College Office of Placement and Career Planning files consist of office files dated from 1924 to 1972. They have been organized into one series, Office files. This series has been arranged into two subseries: Subseries 1. Open materials contains annual reports dated from 1929 to 1957, summer reports dated from 1940 to 1957, announcements, blank forms, brochures and newspaper clippings. This subseries is dated from 1924 to 1970. Subseries 2. Restricted materials contains the confidential office files of the Office of Placement and Career Planning. It includes information about students, alumni, the administration of Pembroke and confidential student recommendations. Portions of this collection are restricted in accordance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.</p>
