The Brown Democrats is a political organization founded in support of the national Democratic Party. Brown Democrats lobby for progressive legislation in Rhode Island and at the federal level, participate in Democratic electoral campaigns, register voters at Brown and elsewhere in Providence, and facilitate political/activist involvement of students wherever possible. In addition, the organization brings speakers to campus every semester for lectures and panels.

The Brown Democrats files contain office files that are arranged alphabetically by topic. They have been organized into one series, topical files. This series includes information regarding the Brown Equal Rights Commission, the Brown Animal Rights Coalition, the East Timor Action Network, Greenpeace, the Iraq Emergency Response Network, the Brown Student Labor Alliance, the peace movement and other issues. The files are undated.
There are no restrictions on access, except that the collection can only be seen by prior appointment. Some materials may be stored off-site and cannot be produced on the same day on which they are requested.
Although Brown University has physical ownership of the collection and the materials contained therein, it does not claim literary rights. Researchers should note that compliance with copyright law is their responsibility. Researchers must determine the owners of the literary rights and obtain any necessary permissions from them.
