This collection contains 7 items relating to the presidential campaign in Venezuela of Hugo Chávez in 1998. It also includes materials related to his first 2 years in office and the national referendum to adopt a new constitution for Venezuela in 1999.

Hugo Chávez was elected president of Venezuela on 6 December 1998. During his first year in office he proposed a new constitution for Venezuela which was ratified during a popular referendum on 15 December 1999 and called the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
