Biographical/Historical Note

Donald Wandrei (1908–1987) was an American writer and poet active in the early twentieth century, known for his contributions to fantasy, science fiction, and horror. The materials in this collection reflect a period in which Wandrei experimented with publishing under a pseudonym, as the title page of Invisible Sun attributes the work to “Carrol Amworth,” while an end leaf identifies Wandrei as the author. The collection also includes manuscript material for a projected book of limericks, suggesting Wandrei’s engagement in multiple literary projects during the early 1930s.

Contains a reproduced typescript of an unpublished novel "Invisible Sun" by Donald Wandrei. The author statement printed on the title page reads "by Carrol Amworth"; printed on bottom: "Carrol Amworth, Apt. 4b, 84 Horatio St., New York City". Printed on the unnumbered leaf at end of volume 2: "Donald Wandrei, 84 Horatio Str., Apt. 4B, New York City", suggesting that Wandrei possibly considered publishing this novel under a pseudonym. Volume three contains manuscript writings over a reproduced typescript for a book of limericks, to be issued by "the original limerick Editor, on or before X Z, 1933"
