Biographical note

<dao xlink:href="http://library.brown.edu/riamco/graphics/US-RPB.jpg"/>

Edith Maria Linnea Carlborg, daughter of Hilda (Nestor) and woodcarver Otto Carlborg, was born February 26, 1888 in Linkoping, Sweden. She had a sister, Astrid H., and a brother, Hugo O.E. EMLC grew up in Minnesota and Providence, where she attended Classical High School. She graduated from the Women's College in Brown University (later Pembroke College) in 1911 and then "student taught" Latin at the Hope Street High School in Providence for a year. After taking a summer library course at Simmons College in Boston, EMLC became a cataloger in the Brown University libraries until her retirement in 1953. She then worked for three years parttime as an assistant in Special Collections. EMLC received an MA in Germanic languages and literature from Brown University in 1916. EMLC was secretary of the class of 1911 for many years. For further biographical information, see her biographical file in the University Archives.
