<p>William Lyon Phelps (1865-1943) was born in New Haven, Connecticut, on January 2, 1865. He attended Yale University, graduating with his B.A. in 1887, followed by an A.M. degree from Harvard in 1891, and his Ph.D. from Yale in 1891. Phelps served as Professor of English Literature at Yale from 1892-1933. He passed away on August 21, 1943, in New Haven. </p>
