This collection consists of one letter from Oliver Ring Warner in Kingston, Jamaica, to his employers Samuel (1711-1792) and William (1719-1806) Vernon in Newport, Rhode Island, on January 5, 1755, concerning the misfortunes faced on Warner’s trading voyage after a gale of wind damaged the ship. Warner informs the Vernon brothers that he hopes to sell the remaining cargo on the vessel as he continues the voyage to Georgia and the Carolinas. Also, Warner suspects that he will be able to purchase rice at a low cost in Carolina, which should help recover any losses incurred.
